My Games of the Week (Week 14)

November 27, 2012

My Games of the Week (Week 14)

Normally I rank the teams in college football. This season in addition to the rankings I will be picking 10 games, for fun of course.

I went a stellar 9-1 last week but have yet to pull off the perfect week. Maybe I can do it on the last week of the season, Championship Week. Here are the picks.

Louisville at Rutgers:
This was a tough game to pick. I like Louisville but they are on a two game skid and Rutgers are rolling. The Scarlett Knights win here.

Northern Illinois vs Kent State:
The Huskies have had a stellar season but Kent States bucked my prediction of a 6-6 season to go 11-1. Despite them outperforming my expectations I think Northern Illinois will win the battle between the two best non-BCS teams in the country.

UCLA at Stanford:
Stanford wins this one in the battle and heads to the Rose Bowl.

UCF at Tulsa:
Tulsa wins the CUSA Championship.

MTSU at Arkansas State:
Arkansas State wins the game and the Sun Belt title.

Boise State at Nevada:
Boise State beats a tough Nevada team.

Alabama vs Georgia:
I think the winner here will be your BCS Champion. There are so many reasons for Georgia to win but I will say Alabama shows up, wins the SEC and beats Notre Dame to win the BCS Championship.

Texas at Kansas State:
Kansas State wins at home.

Florida State vs Georgia Tech:
After North Carolina and Miami, FL made themselves ineligible, third place in the ACC Costal steps up to face Florida State in the ACC Wheel of Destiny Championship. FSU here.

Nebraska vs Wisconsin:
Like the ACC, the Big 10 takes the third place team from the “Leaders” division because Penn State and Ohio State are not available. Going 4-4 in conference play, Wisconsin will again lose this regular season rematch. Its time for Nebraska fans to look at the cost of a dozen roses.

This season Penn State, North Carolina and Ohio State have been banned from participating in postseason play including their conference championships and the BCS Championship game. Because these teams cannot play for the title, they will be ranked dead last in my weekly poll. I will keep track of their record and their opponents but they will remain is last place in the pole. Note that UCF was under the same sanctions but by filing their appeal on Sept. 17 they are now eligible for post season until the NCAA rules on their appeal. If they rule before the end of the season against UCF they will be ineligible for postseason. Since as of right now they are eligible they will be ranked with the eligible teams. On Nov. 20 Miami, FL (6-5 at the time) penalized themselves in hope of avoiding future NCAA penalties, banning themselves from participating in the ACC Championship and bowl games. Because they are now ineligible they were moved to the end of the poll where the other ineligible teams are.

I rank teams weekly based upon how I believe they will finish at the end of the season ad by their records. This is a controversial system but is strangely more accurate than the AP and Coaches poles, which typically have more movement during the season.

My Games of the Week (Week 13)

My Games of the Week (Week 13)

Normally I rank the teams in college football. This season in addition to the rankings I will be picking 10 games, for fun of course.

I Went 6-4 last week missing the upsets but I picked the Miss Coon Rapids winner correctly for the second year in a row. Maybe my pageant picking success will transition over to this week’s picks.

TCU at Texas:
This Thursday night Thanksgiving special is not the same without A&M. Texas has no burning desire like they did against the Aggies. A deflated Texas loses this in a close one.

Ohio at Kent State:
Kent State wins this one to head to the MAC Championship.

Northern Illinois at Eastern Michigan:
Northern Illinois wins this one and starts packing for a trip to the MAC Championship.

LSU at Arkansas:
All Tigers in the Rock here meanwhile Arkansas fans are trying to forget this season while praying their program can be as successful at Arkansas State in 2013.

Georgia Tech at Georgia:
All Bulldogs here. Next stop Georgia Dome.

Oregon at Oregon State:
I predicted this before the season started, Oregon gets shocked by the Beavers.

Auburn at Alabama:
Auburn? Please… The only thing that will keep Alabama from winning is Alabama and that won’t happen.

Florida at Florida State:
Florida snaps out of it to win at FSU.

Missouri at Texas A&M:
Again A&M should be playing Texas on Thanksgiving but takes out their frustration on the Tigers.

Notre Dame at USC:
With USC QB Barkley out this should be a cakewalk for Notre Dame to the BCS Championship. The Irish here.

Through Week 12

Wins: 6
Losses: 4

Total on the Season

Wins: 86
Losses: 34

I rank teams weekly based upon how I believe they will finish at the end of the season ad by their records. This is a controversial system but is strangely more accurate than the AP and Coaches poles, which typically have more movement during the season.

My Games of the Week (Week 12)

My Games of the Week (Week 12)

Normally I rank the teams in college football. This season in addition to the rankings I will be picking 10 games, for fun of course.

After several good weeks, I had four losses this past week. Time to improve my picks.

Toledo at Northern Illinois:
Huge game in the MAC. I’m taking Northern Illinois.

Stanford at Oregon:
Another big game but Stanford is not as good as advertised. Oregon is.

NC State at Clemson:
Should be an easy one for Clemson on the ACC Wheel of Destiny.

UCF at Tulsa:
A preview of the C-USA Championship game. Tulsa the winner.

Arkansas at Mississippi State:
The hogspin continues. Dogs in this one.

Arkansas State at Troy:
Arkansas State proves that they are the best football team in the Sun Belt and the state of Arkansas.

Utah State at Louisiana Tech:
The game of the year in the WAC. Tech takes this at home.

Ole Miss at LSU:
When the sun finds its home in the western sky Ole Miss’ dreams of a win against their hated rival will die. Ok, kickoff is set for 2:30pm Louisiana time for CBS but it will end after sunset. Tigers win here.

UTK at Vanderbilt:
Coach Dooley is fighting for his job but Vanderbilt is on the march. The Vols win this one for the coach but it may be too little too late.

Kansas State at Baylor:
Baylor is used to braking visitors dreams of championships but not this Saturday. Kansas State wins here.

FCS at SEC:
Alabama, Florida, South Carolina, Georgia, Kentucky, Texas A&M and Auburn all play FCS teams in week 12 or should I say SEC weak 12. You are allegedly the best conference in football so why play softies so late in the season? Money from an easy home win. If these coaches can’t win this one the will not be around next year. Why care about this farce that passes for football games. It’s not even worth picking.

Through Week 10

Wins: 6
Losses: 4

Total on the Season

Wins: 80
Losses: 30

I rank teams weekly based upon how I believe they will finish at the end of the season ad by their records. This is a controversial system but is strangely more accurate than the AP and Coaches poles, which typically have more movement during the season.

My Games of the Week (Week 11)

My Games of the Week (Week 11)

Normally I rank the teams in college football. This season in addition to the rankings I will be picking 10 games, for fun of course.

I have picked 100 college football games this season and have a pretty good record so far, 74-26. That’s almost 3 out of four correct. Time to improve the score.

Ball State at Toledo:
If Toledo wants to protect undefeated MAC record they will have to get by 6-3 bowl eligible Ball State. They will do that at home on election night in close race.

Bowling Green at Ohio:
My preseason MAC favorite, Ohio sits ahead of Bowling Green barely in the standings. A win will put them over the top. They will do it with the home field advantage.

Louisville at Syracuse:
Louisville looks to remain undefeated and they will win this one.

Texas A&M at Alabama:
Surprising Texas A&M is turning heads but Alabama will not be caught sleeping. The Bear coached at both schools but it will be the Tide that takes this one.

Kansas State at TCU:
A tough road test for Kansas State. They pull it off in the battle of purple.

Mississippi State at LSU:
LSU doesn’t lose twice at home here.

Georgia at Auburn:
Georgia looks to win the SEC east with a win here.

Louisiana Tech at Texas State:
Should be an easy one for Louisiana Tech if they take it seriously.

Notre Dame at Boston College:
Notre Dame’s “Little Sisters of the Poor” undefeated tour continues as the best team they played now has two losses. So much for a tough schedule. This is an easy blowout for the Irish as long as they don’t choke like they almost did last week.

Oregon at Cal:
The Ducks are too powerful and Cal is having a terrible season.

Through Week 10

Wins: 8
Losses: 2

Total on the Season

Wins: 74
Losses: 26

Because these teams cannot play for the title, they will be ranked dead last in my weekly poll. I will keep track of their record and their opponents but they will remain is last place in the pole. Note that UCF was under the same sanctions but by filing their appeal on Sept. 17 they are now eligible for post season until the NCAA rules on their appeal. If they rule before the end of the season against UCF they will be ineligible for postseason. Since as of right now they are eligible they will be ranked with the eligible teams.

I rank teams weekly based upon how I believe they will finish at the end of the season ad by their records. This is a controversial system but is strangely more accurate than the AP and Coaches poles, which typically have more movement during the season.
